In this competition school kids will engage their creative minds to generate ideas for new and exciting mobile applications. This competition will challenge their imaginative power in bringing their dream application closer to the World. Implementation of the application is not required. We are only expecting ideas!
IT4Kids “Smart World” competition is open to students from Grades 3 to 9.
IT4Kids “Smart World” competition is an individual (not team) contest, and only two contestants per school are allowed to participate.
To enter as a contestant in this competition, please follow these steps:
1. Develop your own design at home (more info below).
2. E-mail us (firstname.lastname@example.org) the following details by April 11, 2017:
An idea paper describing your design. The idea paper should be maximum 2 pages (single column, single spaced, times roman 10 or 11 font), and must contain the following:
Abstract (max 250 words)
Descriptionof the proposed design idea
Justificationof the design idea, which should emphasize the originality/novelty of the idea, applicability (i.e. where and how it will be applicable), importance (e.g., what impact it will have on the world).
The subject title of the email should be "IT4Kids-SW"
Your grade level
A phone/mobile number
The name and address of your school
The name of your supervisor/teacher.
A Contestant can seek help from his/her supervisor (parent or teacher), but the submitted idea must be by large developed by the contestant.
The idea should be original and novel.
Only new and original ideas for apps will be accepted.
Each contestant will be required to present a poster in English (or Arabic). The poster shall illustrate the proposed design idea, as well as its significance, originality and novelty. The poster dimensions shall not exceed the A0 dimensions (841mm x 1189mm). Each contestant will be provided with one stand.
Plagiarism is a serious offence and will not be tolerated. Any contestant committing this offence will be immediately disqualified and prohibited from future participation.
A group of judges will be assigned for every idea. Each assigned judge will evaluate each idea independently.
After completing the evaluation process the participating designs will be shortlisted and ONLY the best 10 ideas will be contacted by April 18 to present at the competition on April 27, 2017.
At the event day, a panel of professional judges will evaluate the shortlisted ideas. Judges will evaluate each idea independently.
Shortlisted contestants are required to be available at the time of evaluation. Each contestant will be given 5 minutes to present his/her idea. Failure to appear before the judge at the time of evaluation will automatically disqualify the idea from the competition.
Judges will select the best three designs. Accordingly, three prizes (first, second, and third place) will be awarded.
The decision of the judges will be final (not open for contestants) and cannot be challenged.
IT4Kids “Smart World” committee reserves the right to disqualify any contestant who fails to adhere to the above-mentioned competition and/or judging rules.

20% Impact: How, and to what extent, would it impact the world?
20% Paper: How clear and easy to understand is the idea paper?
20% Poster and Presentation: How well contestants can express themselves and explain their idea to the evaluator?
